When Janie was about three years old she would, enraged by the misery of being a toddler, stand on a stepping stool in front of the bathroom mirror and watch herself scream at the top of her lungs. She grew up in Santa Cruz, California, where she once held the title of Miss Santa Cruz County. She tried her hand at musical theater and jingles, but never once was the satisfaction as great as it is when she can sing what she creates with a pen and paper and an out of tune piano.

Janie was accepted to the vocal performance and music business department of a small conservatory of music in central California. She dropped the performance degree and in May 2005, she walked away with a bachelor’s of music in music management.

Janie moved to San Francisco, where she found a community of passionate musicians, started writing songs and performing.

Her influences range from her first exposure to songwriters - Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan and morphed into a broad array of world performers ranging from Ladysmith Black Mambazo to Ani DiFranco, Fleetwood Mac to Bob Marley, Bebel Gilberto to Four Tet and many more.

Janie Oliver’s writing isn’t confined to a genre, nor does she sway from embracing any gifts that pop, jazz and folk have given her. Open your ears and let her in. . .

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Robert Vance Cross III has always been interested in sound and music. At the University of California, Santa Cruz, he studied recording technology and electronic music, explored his music creativity through performance, and simultaneously co-created the CuisNart, an interactive music looping software. Designing and shaping the sounds and function of this unique improvisational interface, he worked with instruments such as bass, layering multiple levels of bass sound, bringing to the forefront an instrument that usually remains in the background. After completing his degree in 2003, Robert immediately began work as an engineer and album producer, producing eight albums and engineering over twenty albums
