Janie was accepted to the vocal performance and music business department of a small conservatory of music in central California. She dropped the performance degree and in May 2005, she walked away with a bachelor’s of music in music management.
Janie moved to San Francisco, where she found a community of passionate musicians, started writing songs and performing.
Her influences range from her first exposure to songwriters - Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan and morphed into a broad array of world performers ranging from Ladysmith Black Mambazo to Ani DiFranco, Fleetwood Mac to Bob Marley, Bebel Gilberto to Four Tet and many more.
Janie Oliver’s writing isn’t confined to a genre, nor does she sway from embracing any gifts that pop, jazz and folk have given her. Open your ears and let her in. . .
